Cambion - The Story So Far

The Cambridge Thermionic Corporation was founded in the 1930’s in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The name Cambion comes from the first four and last three letters of that name.

The company established a reputation in the USA as a quality supplier of small electro-mechanical and electronic components for the military and professional electronics markets.

In 1961 a parallel manufacturing facility was established in the UK to service markets outside the USA. This plant is in Castleton, England,  Click here to get a flavour of Castleton. See our Find Us page for directions to the company.

In 1981 Cambion and two other connector manufacturers were bought by Midland Ross and formed into the electronic connector division of that company. The other companies were Hollingsworth (solderless terminals) and SAE (IDC and edge board connectors).

In the late 1980’s a management buyout of most of the electronic connector division of Midland Ross saw the formation of Interconnection Products Inc. and the new name of IPI.

In 1991 the USA part of this organisation ceased trading and left the UK division as the only operating manufacturing plant for the Cambion range. The assets of the UK division, along with other parts of the IPI company, were bought by the Wearnes Corporation in 1991.

Since 1991 the plant in Castleton has been serving the USA electronics industry through a network of distributors and manufacturers' representatives.

Cambion continues its pursuit of excellence in product, quality and service, typified by approval of our quality system to ISO 9001.
